Green Turkey Day

I realize most Thanksgiving hosts have probably already ordered their turkey for this year’s feast, but for those of you last-minute cooks and early birds already planning Christmas Dinner, I recommend buying a pasture-raised, antibiotic-free turkey (or other animal). You can find them at the Eat Well Guide, from farms or stores in your area.
As you may know, pasture-raised animals are better for you, because eating grass and other wild greens boosts levels of omega 3 and other good fats in their meat. Same goes for milk, cheese and butter from these animals. And it’s more humane for the animals, who would rather spend their days our in open fields than crammed in a cement building (I know the animals prefer this because they told me). Why no antibiotics, you ask? Well, the overuse of antibiotics in animal agriculture leads to antibiotic resistance in human medicine, which means we’ll all get attacked by the super bug if we don’t stop over-medicating our food animals. So get your meat and dairy from farms and stores listed on the Eat Well Guide – or else!
And while we’re on the topic of Thanksgiving, let me just note that there’s no reason to overdo it with the stuffing this year. Not turkey stuffing, but self-stuffing. Eating to the point of paralyzation or regurgitation is really no fun, so please eat responsibly. And save the leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch, because turkey sandwiches are delicious.
