Pumpkin is The New Mocha

Am I the only one around here who’s noticed that pumpkin is totally in this season? Bath and Body Works, Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts are all advertizing their fancy new pumpkin-flavored wares like it’s the hottest new thing. As if pumpkins haven’t been around since forever or something.

I understand that pumpkin is a delicious and fragrant fruit (vegetable?), and I’ve long thought that it’s a shame how we Americans carve and smash them about this time every year, rarely tasting them except in the form of a highly-sugared pie. It’s great that these companies are catching on to the fact that pumpkins are tasty treats, I just think it’s unfortunate that Americans will now get their pumpkin experience in the form of a syrupy cup of coffee, a deep-fried preservative-laden donut, and/or a scented candle that is so far removed from an actual pumpkin that it might as well be a test tube full of wax (smelly wax).
My recommendation is that this season we get our pumpkin flavor from actual pumpkins. Here’s a website that’s a veritable treasure trove of pumpkin info to help get you started: Pumpkin Nook.

Pumpkin flavor reminds me of grape flavor. Pumpkin flavored items don’t actually smell like pumpkin at all — they smell like the spiced version of orange flavor — not orange the citrus, orange the color.
Grape flavor is in truth purple flavor — it has no relationship to vine fruit at all.
I think your advice for pumpkin seekers should expand to many maligned fruits.

Even with all the pictures of pumpkin-enhanced products, my mouth didn’t start watering until I went to the Pumpkin Nook website. And it just listed text. Pumpkin is my favorite pie (maybe because I’m a fall-time baby). Now I have to check the ingredients in the pumpkin mix we use for pies. I hope it’s healthy.
Good news.
